Female Sterilization / Tubal Ligation (TL)

GENERAL

Eligibility criteria are met.

All preoperative investigations are done.

Anaesthesia fitness is obtained.

Patient is post-menstrual.

Consent from wife and husband (patient can sign on husband’s behalf if he is away but has consented, or if she is divorcee / single).

TL form is filled and checked by seniors.

Consent for TL and associated procedure (wherever required)

ON THE DAY OF SURGERY

Preoperative orders are followed.

OT changes are given.

The patient accompanied by a relative and servant while shifting.

FOR PUERPERAL TUBAL LIGATION, CHECK

Patient has breastfed her child on the morning of surgery.

A female relative is waiting with the child.

Order of preference in OT is followed. (puerperal, - PTL , MTP with TL, Minilap TL, Lap TL )

IN OT

Patient has passed urine before the procedure.

Consent and TL form are checked by the operating surgeon.

TL is done by an Assistant Professor or higher officer if taken after 1pm due to unavoidable circumstances.

CHECK OT ENTRIES

Indoor paper

Doctors' OT book.

TL book.

MTP book, if TL is done with MTP.

Histopathology form.

Postoperative orders.

OT notes are signed by senior surgeon and attached to file before shifting patient.

TL form is signed by operating surgeon .

IN THE WARD

Postoperative orders are followed.

Postoperative monitoring is done.

Patient has passed urine.

BEFORE DISCHARGE

TL money is collected by patient.

Patient is counseled regarding follow up, regular as well as if she misses a period any time.
